I use the medium of narrative film to examine incidental, and supposedly insignificant moments, as a way to uncover the extraordinary aspects of everyday life in urban spaces. I use techniques of visual storytelling to weave together video, writing, memory, music, and digital media.

In doing this work, I am drawn to stories from the world around me; ordinary stories that reveal the complexities and dilemmas of everyday life, particularly alongside the social and emotional aspects of human existence.

DTD poster with credits square.jpg

Down The Drain is a documentary-fiction film about Bangalore’s sewage, told from the perspective of a woman who accidentally flushes a watch down the toilet.

In tracing the journey that the watch takes from the toilet, the woman gets glimpses into the pipes and people that make up the sewage system in the city, and observes the system as well as its parts through conversations with different people.

It was commissioned by Science Gallery Bengaluru, and funded by Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies

The Salon
Fiction Short

A trailer of my fiction short film The Salon, produced by UA Kathachitra, which is about a middle aged woman who strikes up a conversation with her hairstylist, and works through her loss while getting her hair cut. Through the course of this haircut, the short film explores an unlikely connection between two people from very different backgrounds, and also the conversations we have with others and with ourselves.
The film was screened at film festivals including Arthouse Asia, International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, Indian film festivals Stuttgart, Melbourne, and Atlanta, among others.

What Goes, What Stays?

In an attempt to free up storage on my phone, I am faced with a big dilemma – what do I delete, and what do I keep? I answer the question as I make my way through all the WhatsApp videos on my phone. The film is stitched together with found media, stop motion, and animation. The music for the film is done by Raghav Krishna.

Documentary Short

I bid goodbye to a house that my family lived in for 20 years in this documentary short, which views as a love letter to a house. Stitched together in a DIY style with mostly phone footage, this film observes a family as they prepare for change.
Official Selection at The Amsterdam Lift-Off Film Festival 2021.
